Occupation-led development of an upper limb prosthetic paediatric outcome measure

The aim of this project is to occupationally relevant activities for children to co-design and define the requirements of a novel outcome set to measure upper limb prosthetic hand function and control. The student will be required to design a series of qualitative and observational studies to define and refine tasks to incorporate into a paediatric outcome measure using a combination of methodologies supported by the expertise of the supervisory team. This user-led ethos directly supports the CDT Research Topic Areas for 2022/2023 for 'User-centred assistive technologies and outcome measures' and contributes in part to 'understanding user interactions with prostheses, orthoses and walking aids'. The long-term aim of this project is to add a value-based paediatric outcome measure for use alongside the Southampton Hand Assessment Procedure (SHAP), a clinically validated outcome measure for adult upper limb prosthetic use.
