3-d extinction in the GAIA catalogue of the Milky Way

The project will obtain accurate stellar parameters and extinction for stars in the GAIA DR3 catalogue. The student will create a computational tool to assign a temperature and luminosity to the stars. The tool will fit model stellar atmospheres to the GAIA distance and photometry from other catalogues. The extinction due to intervening dust will be derived. The student will use this tool to obtain high resolution extinction profiles across areas of the sky, to investigate the structure of the interstellar dust clouds and to search for stellar clusters.
