Disrupting and Delivering: A New Approach to Tackling Biofilm Infections

In this project we aim to use physical stimuli and targeted liposomal delivery to disrupt and sensitise biofilms for the delivery of antimicrobial drugs. The primary focus will be on antibiotic-resistant lung infections, using targeted delivery to Gram-negative bacteria. We will develop a microfluidic-based high throughput screening platform combining acoustic manipulation and optical tweezers to evaluate the therapeutics, and use a range of biophysical techniques to characterise them during formulation development
