A Phenomenological Investigation of Hermeneutical Injustice in Psychiatry

My project offers a phenomenological investigation of hermeneutical injustice in psychiatry. Iconnect two sets of philosophical literature, on phenomenology and on epistemic injustice,to argue that the work of phenomenologists such as Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger enrichesFricker's (2007) notion of hermeneutical injustice. I argue that this connection can aid inunderstanding the existential harm associated with the first-person experience ofhermeneutical injustice, whilst also revealing the mechanisms through which hermeneuticalinjustice in psychiatry can arise.
