RENAL BONE DISEASE

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objectives of the proposed research are 1) to investigate in dialysis patients the relationship between activities of bone cells, bone turnover, and mRNA expression of parathyroid hormone receptor, vitamin D receptor, interleukin 1, tumor necrosis factor alpha; 2) to prospectively evaluate the effect of dialysis treatment on these mRNA species and bone turnover; and 3) to assess the relationship between C-terminal PTH/serum intact PTH ratio, 1-84PTH, 7-84PTH 1-84PTH:7-84PTH ratio and C-PTH-related protein levels and bone turnover.
