This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The overall objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of a group visit model with standard care for the control of essential hypertension. The specific aims are to: 1) Develop protocols and procedures for group visits for the management of essential hypertension in urban, low-income adults. 2) Compare the effectiveness of a group visit model to standard care for the control of essential hypertension. 3) Compare patient health resource utilization between those assigned to the group visit model versus standar care 4) Evaluate the characteristics of patients that predict response to the group visit model such as age, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, hypertension knowledge, and self-efficacy
