Clinical Core

The primary purpose of the Clinical Core will be to provide access to patients, clinical specimens, and administrative support essential to the success of the work being performed by CFAR investigators, to facilitate collaborative interactions among laboratory-based, translational, and clinical investigators, and to attract new investigators into the field of HIV/AIDS research through the CFAR. To meet these goals, the Clinical Core will provide-access to and assist in-the-recruitment of HtV-1-infected patients; develop and maintain a comprehensive clinical and research database of HIV-l-infected patients for use in recruitment, study design, data analysis, and specimen acquisition; provide assistance with procurement, processing and storage of clinical specimens for individual studies; develop a repository of serial specimens obtained from patients participating in the database for future use by CFAR investigators; provide biostatistical support for the appropriate design and analysis of basic, translational, and clinical HIV/AIDS-related research studies; provide technical assistance in preparation, submission, and tracking of IRB approvals and regulatory documents for CFAR studies that use human subjects or biological specimens; assist in investigator training and education in human subject research and good clinical practices in clinical investigation, and; promote and disseminate information about CFAR related research activities, projects and services.
