INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE POST MAXIMAL EXERCISE AT VARIOUS ISOKINETIC VELOCITIES

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is designed to determine if there is a relationship between the velocity of eccentric quadriceps exercise and IL-6 and IL-1 response to strenuous exercise. A secondary goal is to determine the relationship between muscle soreness and velocity of exercise and if that soreness relates to cytokine peak concentrations. We hypothesize that higher velocities will create a greater cytokine response and that higher velocity will result in greater soreness.
