EFFECT OF CHILD HOSPITALIZATION ON PARENTAL SMOKING CESSATION

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objective of this research project is to determine the efficacy of utilizing a child's hospitalization as an appropriate point of intervention for parents who smoke. We hypothesize that parents who complete a smoking cessation intervention program, while their child is hospitalized, will have higher rates of participation, follow-up, and actual smoking cessation, than has been previously reported for parents of children seen in the outpatient setting.
