Novel treatments for diabetic complications

糖尿病是导致需要透析或移植的肾衰竭的主要原因。糖尿病患者也有更高的风险遭受心脏病发作，中风和截肢，特别是一旦肾损伤发生。目前的策略不能完全保护患者免受并发症的影响。我的研究将揭示我们对糖尿病并发症理解的知识差距，确定新的目标，最终导致迫切需要更有效的治疗和预防策略，以减少糖尿病疾病的负担。

Diabetes is the leading cause for kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplantation. Diabetic patients also have a higher risk to suffer from heart attacks, stroke and amputations in particular once kidney damage occurs. Current strategies fail to completely protect patients from complications. My research will uncover knowledge gaps in our understanding of diabetes complications, identify new targets ultimately leading to urgently needed more effective treatments and prevention strategies to reduce the burden of disease in diabetes.
