Coupling metabolomic and proteomic approaches in profiling endobiotics metabolism

Numerous endogenous substances exert major biological roles. The maintenance of these roles is ensured by adequate levels of synthesis and metabolism. However, studying their metabolism is currently limited by the absence of methods for the measurement of the enzymes involved in these metabolic processes. However, novel technologies, such as proteomic and metabolomic now allow the specific identification of proteins and endogenous substance metabolites, respectively. The purpose of our novel research program is to pair these new technologies in order to generate a serie of quantification tools that will be useful in investigating how genetic and environmental factors can alter the metabolism and function of biologically active endogenous substances. Indeed, these tools will provide for the first time the possibility of deciphering the exact contribution of EME isoforms in cellular response to genetic or environmental challenges.
