We have three research foci in the lab. First, we study the evolutionary (phylogenetic) species complexes in the Simuliidae (black flies) and Culicidae (mosquitoes). For this, we use a total evidence approach and consider morphological, cytological, behavioural, ecological and molecular data. Second, we are interested in blood-feeding host preferences among members of species complexes. Third, we study sugar-feeding and its implications for understanding baseline biological data and parasite transmission in black flies and mosquitoes.
