UrtheCast is a Vancouver-based company that will launch two camera modules into space in late 2013. Both modules will be attached to the International Space Station (IIS) and will provide streaming images of the surface of the earth. While the use of the IIS as a platform has significant advantages, it also presents some challenges, such as increased vibration compared to unmanned satellites. These vibrations degrade image quality through motion blur and so-called rolling shutter artifacts.
