Data Services for Cloud Applications

Cloud computing is already having a significant impact on the way that software is delivered and used, on electronic commerce, on web search and information retrieval, and in many other areas. It promises economic benefits by allowing such services to be offered at lower cost. It also spurs innovation by lowering barriers to the creation and deployment of new on-line services. Most cloud applications rely on a database. My work seeks to build better database management for cloud applications, so that those applications can be simpler, faster, and more reliable. The goal is to design database management services that are highly reliable, that can scale easily to accommodate growing databases and increasing workloads, and that provide a rich set of useful services that make it easy to build powerful and reliable applications.
