Canadian water sources for drinking and agriculture are threatened by waterborne bacterial pathogens including Escherichia coli O157:H7, Campylobacter jejuni, and Salmonella species. It is important to understand the molecular mechanisms by which waterborne bacteria survive and persist in the diverse environmental conditions. Dr. Tao Dong's research employs cutting- edge systems biology approaches to investigate inter-species interaction and key gene functions required for niche-specific adaptation. In addition, Dr. Dong will develop biological tools to control the prevalence and transmission of waterborne pathogens in the environment.
