Forest fires are a global phenomenon that shape ecosystem development and biodiversity, soil health, and**management and development practices. Detecting and mapping burn scars with high temporal frequency is**valuable for several reasons. First, burn scars contain information about the spatiotemporal behavior of the fire.**Second, measuring the presence, extent, and change in burn scars has important commercial applications. This**ENGAGE + will involve continuing to undertake state of the art research with TANKA to more**comprehensively exploit high spatial and temporal resolution imagery from the PLANET constellation to**provide data products of high calibrated quality to users. This project will create methodological standards for**analyzing imagery fire data for the purposes of creating alerts of when and where fire events are occurring. In**addition, the project will examine how these data could be used to assess tree mortality-levels within wildfires.
