My research will explore novel ways of transforming bulk chemicals from abundant, renewable sources such as biomass into valuable chemicals for use as fuel additives, synthetic reactants, and environmentally friendly feedstocks. The development of catalyts that allow selective and efficient reactions to take place while minimizing waste generation will play a key role towards achieving these goals. This work will help Canada progress towards a more sustainable future by identifying processes that will allow local refining of important chemicals.*
