Digital displays will soon overtake the use of whiteboards in organizations. These displays have increased**capacities over traditional whiteboards, including the ability to store information, recall previous states, and**allow remote access of previously generated information. While these capabilities have long been around, we**do not yet understand how people will appropriate this functionality in their workflow, and if indeed these**technologies will be used in the ways that we expect. The problem is that since we do not know how people**will use these technologies, we do not know how to design effective digital whiteboard replacements for**organizations needing to use these to replace whiteboards. The proposed project aims to address this gap in our**knowledge by studying how teams take on digital whiteboards over a deployment period. We will explore how**their work practices change in regard to activities with the whiteboard, as well as how they access, reuse and**study past whiteboard content through both logged usage, as well as interviews and observations. The**contribution of this work will be a detailed framework that describes how organizations use next generation**digital whiteboards that can be used to guide design of future digital whiteboard technologies.
