Professor Brunner investigates the nature of neutrinos, specifically, he focuses on answering the question if neutrinos and anti-neutrinos are in fact identical particles. Neutrinos are the most abundant known massive particles in the universe, yet most of their fundamental properties such as their mass remain uncharted. Brunner is developing ultra-sensitive low-background detection techniques with the nEXO collaboration to investigate the nature of neutrinos by studying a hypothetical radioactive decay with a halflife up to 10^28 years, more than 10^18 times the age of the universe. Brunner and his team must go deep underground with their nEXO detector to investigate the nature of neutrinos.
