The Real Time Adherence Monitoring System for Digital Therapies and Diagnostics provides a novel approach for monitoring a patient's compliance to digital therapies (e.g. treatment of the common vision disorder amblyopia) that takes into account many parameters such as eye gaze, eye blinking, head pose, facial expression, relative eye stability and yawning. It is able to detect whether a patient is wearing the 3D glasses required for treatment and/or ophthalmic prescription during therapy. It can detect whether the patient is performing the therapy or someone else (e.g. a sibling). It also detects seven emotions in real-time, namely: "Happy", "Sad", "Disgust", "Neutral", "Anger", "Surprise" and "Scared". Some advantages of this innovation include: (1) ability to track multiple parameters in real-time. (2) produce feedback signals to regain patient's attention to treatment or alert their parent/caregiver/clinician upon detecting that the patient is upset or unengaged. (3) monitor patient adherence and provide detailed adherence analytics. This innovation has applications in the patient and driver monitoring industries as well as the treatment of vision (e.g. amblyopia) and psychiatric disorders (e.g. ADHD). Digital patient monitoring devices are becoming increasing popular for the treatment of a wide range of disorders, particularly within the context of COVID-19. While technological advancements, prevalence of autonomous vehicles and rise in car accidents have made driver monitoring systems highly valuable for the automotive industry. As part of this Market Assessment grant, the selected consultant (Adventus) will perform a thorough market analysis to identify the most suitable market opportunities along with technical, marketing and financial challenges associated with the application of the technology in a particular market segment. A favorable market assessment result will 1) formulate the commercialization strategy and help attract potential licensees 2) form the basis for submitting a follow-on NSERC I2I Phase 1 project proposal.
