La Chaire 'appuiera sur les dd。
The main objective of the proposed Phase II of the IRC on femtosecond photo-inscribed photonic componentsand devices pertains to the generation and transmission of photons within the mid-infrared spectral region. TheIRC is actually building from the major developments in the field of photo-inscribed photonic components(such as FBGs and 3-D glass directional couplers) enabled by the advent of high-performance femtosecondlaser sources. In turn, photonic components like FBGs are key elements for the development of devices likemonolithic fiber lasers which have become, along with laser diodes, the most convenient and efficient sourcesof coherent radiation. High intensity pulses also resulted in a new category of laser-matter interactions leadingto a full range of industrial processes like cutting, cleaving or welding of materials or combination of materialsincluding dielectrics (glass and crystals), along with semiconductors and metals. Accordingly, the Chair'sscientific program will rely on two main thrusts, i.e. I: Mid-IR Fiber Sources and Applications; II: AdvancedLaser Processes and their Applications. A significant outcome is expected to result from IRC researchactivities, from basic knowledge on mid-IR fiber lasers or laser-matter interaction, to more appliedtechnologies and expertise like the ablation of biological tissues or the detection of greenhouse gases. The IRCpartners will all benefit from this outcome in various ways. For instance, a compact and rugged fiber basedpulsed source of radiation at 2.94 microns operated in the kHz regime with pulse energies approaching the mJlevel will allow LMI to address new market opportunities in the biomedical domain. In the same manner, thedevelopment of femtosecond mid-IR fiber lasers will allow both Laserax and TLCL to have access to new laserprocesses to address various challenges related to polymer processing. As for Teraxion and Coractive they willboth benefit from the development of various mid-IR components (e.g. FBGs, high power Mid-IR transmittingcomponents), for light processing as well as light transmitting purposes, to address new markets in the fields ofoptical sensors, spectroscopy and defense & security.L'objectif principal de la Phase II de la Chaire portera sur la génération et la transmission de photons dans ledomaine spectral de l'infrarouge moyen.
