At the boundary between phases in a quantum material billions and billions of flowing electrons can entangle themselves with surrounding quantum mechanical spins and give rise to a new critical state. In essence, the electrons and spins might cease to exist as individual particles but instead form a new quantum critical state. The present proposal focuses on understanding such a quantum critical material and the possibility for exploiting it to develop new technologies. Quantum entanglement is the basis for storage and processing of quantum information as well as for the most intriguing proposals for designing quantum sensors. The critical state is also believed to drive the formation of technologically important new phases such as superconductivity. The advancement of our knowledge of how superconductivity arise is crucial for designing new materials that could be the impetus for establishing new sectors of the economy. Likewise, metrology has many important industrial applications and quantum sensors holds the promise of significantly increasing the precision and sensitivity of measurements.
