A rapid method for collection of static crevicular fluid (SCF) on filter papers is described. Standardization of a Periotron® for volume quantitation of the SCF allowed accurate collection of crevicular fluid samples from periodontal disease patients. A method for elution of SCF was developed and was shown to provide nearly total recovery of antibody activity from the filter papers. Analysis of specific antibody to suspected periodontal pathogens in eight individuals indicated a site‐to‐site variation in antibody levels within the oral cavity. Also, SCF from certain sites exhibited antibody levels that were significantly greater than serum, supporting the concept of specific local antibody synthesis in gingival tissues.
