The UK forecast analysis was completed on 17 April 2020, more recent data are incorporated in the text.The economic outlook in the past three months has changed beyond recognition. At the time of our last Review, the emerging Covid-19 pandemic was seen as a worrying health threat that could affect China and neighbouring economies, but was not central to our assessment of the global economic outlook. Since then, countries around the world have imposed a range of social distancing measures to ‘flatten the curve’and limit the spread of Covid-19. These measures have had the effect of stopping much economic activity, as discussed in the world economy chapter of this Review.
