METHODSThis qualitative study included 12 in-person focus groups at seven subsidized housing sites in Pennsylvania and New Jersey conducted between January and June 2019. The semi-structured interview guide included open-ended questions about staff members’ interactions with residents and perspectives on barriers and facilitators to living independently. To analyze focus group transcripts, we used qualitative thematic analysis with a team-based hybrid deductive and inductive approach to coding, including double-coding 20% of transcripts to achieve interrater reliability> 0.80. The team reviewed the content of each code and developed the final themes. We managed data using Atlas. ti (Version 8, Berlin, Scientific Software Development).RESULTSOf the 69 participants, one-third (31%) worked as maintenance staff, 29% as property managers, 19% as service coordinators, 10% as administrative assistants, 7% as computer lab technicians, and 4% as security guards (Table 1). Most had at least one year of experience in their position and professional role.
