This chapter will outline the novel challenges experienced by the French elite higher education sector in recent times due to the policies of internationalisation and examine how one of the most elite institutions—theÉcoles normales supérieures—has responded to them. The chapter offers an analysis of interviews with academic staff atENS de la rue d’UlmandENS de Cachanand considers how current internationalisation processes are perceived and debated by them. Drawing on these views, this chapter reconstructs elements of the institutionalhabitusof these elite colleges.
