Several species of Archaea are known to be involved in close associations with representatives of Eukarya, Bacteria, and other Archaea. These communities which seem to have an important, so far underestimated influence on ecological and environmental processes can often hardly be assigned to the “classical” concepts of mutualism, commensalism, or parasitism.
