Individual items are then generated, based on review of the literature, consultation with experts, and qualitative interviews with members of the population for whom the scale is being developed. 3 In the development of the SEPP scale, the authors developed scale items consistent with the above conceptual definition. We first conducted a review of SE literature, self-management literature, and parent partnership literature. Based on that literature review, the research team chose to create a scale using the root ‘‘I can always’’(as in the Epilepsy Self-efficacy Scale) 2 and identified 20 activities that it believed addressed partnership, resulting in 17 original scale items.
