InterventionsBecause obesity-associated asthma is less responsive to typical asthma medications, an integrated approach to the patient with comorbid obesity requires attention to obesity and its sequelae. Here, we summarize published experiences with dietary, behavioral, surgical, and pharmacologic interventions against obesity-associated asthma.ConclusionObesity-associated asthma is a unique phenotype which tends to be more severe and resistant to conventional asthma treatments. Differences in respiratory mechanics, inflammation, comorbidities, the microbiome, and susceptibility to air pollution may be contributory factors. The effectiveness of interventions against these mediating factors are mixed, but weight loss consistently improves asthma control and severity.
