Transportation Lessons Learned from the 1985 Mexico Earthquake

1985年9月19日，墨西哥地震袭击了一座拥有现代交通控制系统和相当大的汽车保有量的大城市。因此，重要的是要调查、综合和学习墨西哥城在地震后影响期间所采取的交通行动。这项研究的重点将主要放在震后近期、短期和长期需要采取的交通行动，包括车辆交通的管理和运营、向灾区派遣应急车辆、恢复公共交通正常运行以及将被困在灾区的人们疏散到安全避难所。

The September 19, 1985 Mexico earthquake struck a large city with modern traffic control systems and sizable car population. Thus, it is important to investigate, synthesize, and learn from the transportation actions carried out in Mexico City in the post-impact period of the earthquake. The main focus of this study will be on transportation actions needed in the immediate, short-term, and long-term periods after the earthquake in regard to the management and operations of vehicular traffic, dispatching of emergency vehicles to disaster sites, returning mass transit to normalcy, and evacuating people trapped in the disaster areas to safe shelters.
