Interannual Variability of Tropical Climate

该项目涉及环流和气候异常的诊断以及热带地区的统计气候预测。未来三年需要处理的具体任务是：(1)巴西东北部、撒哈拉以南非洲、南美洲西北部和印度-印度尼西亚部分热带地区的预测方法发展；(2)南方涛动的季节性机制；(3)过去130年来东非和印度洋的长期气候变化。(4)印度夏季和冬季季风的关系；(5)青藏高原在热带环流异常中的作用。这些研究将提高我们对热带地区区域和行星尺度环流之间联系的重要物理过程的理解。

This project is concerned with diagnostics of circulation and climate anomalies, and statistical climate prediction for tropical regions. Specific tasks to be tackled over the next three years are : (1) The development of prediction methodology for selected tropical regions including Northeast Brazil, sub- Saharan West Africa, Northwestern South America, and India- Indonesia sector, (2) mechanisons of the seasonality of the Southern Oscillation, (3) long term climate changes in Eastern Africa and the Indian Ocean over the past 130 years, (4) the relation of Indian summer and winter monsoons, and (5) the role of Tibetan Plateau in tropical circulation anomalies. These studies will improve our understanding of the important physical processes that link regional and planetary-scale circulations in the tropics.
