Siple-Coast Ice Stream Response to Atmospheric CO2 Variation

本研究的目的是：1)。建立一个基于物理的、可测试的南极西部冰流分辨率有限元模型，2)。对影响冰盖质量平衡的重要大气和海洋控制因素(包括可能的冰盖地形/地面气流反馈)进行参数化，以及3)。对南极洲西部对未来“温室效应”变暖的反应进行预测(并与记录在案的过去行为进行比较，作为置信度测试)。请拨资金用于支付博士后、研究生和教职员工的工资、设备、旅费和计算机支持。

The purposes of this research are to: 1). produce a physically based, testable ice-stream resolving finite- element model of West Antarctic, 2). parameterize important atmospheric and oceanic controls on ice-sheet mass balance (including the possible ice-sheet topography/surface-airflow feedback), and 3). conduct forecasts of West Antarctica's response to future "greenhouse" warming (and comparisons with documented past behavior serving as confidence tests). Funds are requested to support postdoctoral, graduate student and faculty salaries, equipment, travel and computer support.
