This project explores the introduction of broadcast technologies in the United States through an analysis of the decisions made by the government institutions that oversaw the development of the radio and television industry. An earlier phase of the project examined AM and FM radio broadcasting, and the rise of black-and-white and color television. This part of the project will be concerned with more recent developments, including cable and satellite broadcasting and high-definition television. The project will result in a major book as well as several articles in scholarly and popular journals.
