Industrial-Academic Workshop to Foster Collaboration in Database Research

这一讲习班使从业人员能够与一些学术研究人员讨论多年来在数据库实施方面出现的技术和科学问题。演讲由行业演讲者进行，讲述他们在解决棘手的科学或技术问题方面的经验。这使学者能够从实践者的角度来看待研究，并激发了关于学术与产业研究相互支持的讨论。这种相互支持可能包括学者对行业的访问或反之亦然，获得软件包、源代码(可能是旧的源代码)、数据集、学生对行业的访问、对学生的行业支持等等。此外，还将讨论产学合作和技术转让的障碍，并提出可能的解决方案。这次研讨会的目的是探讨如何建立相互支持的学术和产业研究合作机制，并对这些机制进行宣传。讲习班的结果将通过在线报告传播，并将在讲习班网站上提供补充材料。

This workshop enables practitioners to discuss with some academic researchers technical and scientific issues in database implementation which have come up over the years. Talks are given by industry speakers about experiences they have had with difficult scientific or technical problems. This enables academics to see research from a practitioner's viewpoint and motivates the discussion on mutual support of academic-industrial research. Such mutual support might include visits from academics to industry or vice-versa, access to software packages, source code (possibly old source code), data sets, student visits to industry, industry support of students and so forth. In addition, the barriers to industrial-academic collaboration and technology transfer are to be discussed and potential solutions proposed. The objective of this workshop is to find out how to set up mechanisms of mutual support for academic-industrial research collaboration and to publicize these mechanisms. The results of the workshop will be disseminated via an online report and additional material will be made available at the workshop Web site.
