North-Victoria Land with the adjacent Ross Sea, Antarctica, is one main research area of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe, BGR, Hannover). In the frame of the still running project, the main focus was on the existing data sets from gravity and magnetic fields, their evaluation and homogenisation, and their appropriation as data base for modelling. Esp. a big gap in the magnetic anomaly data could be closed by data from the Italian colleagues. On the basis of geological findings and geo-tectonic information, a first three-dimensional gravity model for North-Victoria-Land was developed. During these works, the requirement of further research and the investigation of associated aspects have developed. Modelling and data studies for different scales and, in particular, the effect of the topographic reduction need to be studied in more detail. The gravity influence of ice masses, the wavelength filtering of the anomaly fields, and the stripping of the modelled structures in the anomaly are further aspects. These investigations will allow characterizing the different geological structures much more detailed. At last, the main aim will be a new interpretation of the geodynamic evolution of the area under investigation on the basis of the new achieved modelling of the potential fields.
