0071856McKeownThis program includes experimental and theoreticalresearch in a variety of areas in nuclear physics. The projects arefocussed on fundamental understanding of the structure and interactions of nucleons and the use of nuclear physics toperform precision tests the standard electroweak theory.A substantial part of the experimental program involvesstudies of parity violation in electron scattering fromnucleons, nuclei, and electrons. A program to exploita new intense source of ultra-cold neutrons in Los Alamoswill study the beta asymmetry in neutron decay withunprecedented precision as well as other fundamental propertiesof neutrons. The education and training of studentsand postdoctoral scholars is a key aspect of this research program.
