CAREER: Geometry Algorithms for Sensor Data and Shape Representation

New technology for capturing shape data from the real worldrequires new algorithms to interpret and use it. Building onnew ideas about reconstructing a surface from a set ofpoints in three-dimensional space, we consider algorithmsfor computing different shape representations, and foraligning point sets to each other. We look for simple,effective yet provably correct algorithms, using tools fromcomputational geometry but drawing on the huge body ofprevious work in computer vision and graphics. This workcomplements our teaching in graphics and algorithms, andhelps us train graduate students in research.
