A four day workshop in Algebraic Geometry is planned, focusing on thetraining of graduate students and junior faculty. The format willemphasize participants working together in small groups led bymentors. The workshop is designed to engage students and juniorfaculty in related areas of algebraic geometry focusing on stacks andperhaps including computational algebraic geometry. The workinggroups will organize around problems and topics within thesesubfields. Senior faculty will give plenary lectures to set thegeneral direction. The expected composition of the workshop isapproximately 60 graduate students, 15 junior faculty, and 8 seniorfaculty.Algebraic geometry is the study of the relationship between algebraicproperties of polynomial equations and the geometry of their solutionsets. During the past century, algebraic geometry has been appliedrepeatedly to a wide range of areas of study in pure algebra and puregeometry. More recently applications have emerged in theoreticalphysics, cryptography, and engineering. The workshop is designed tocomplement other forms of training received by junior algebraicgeometers, providing them the experience of actively doing researchwith their peers and mentors.
