PittsThe Texas Geometry and Topology Conference has been held springand fall since its founding in 1989, a total of 28 times. Theconference has become an extremely successful semiannual event inthe Southwest. The next series of conferences will have sixprimary sponsoring universities: The University of Texas atAustin, Texas A&M University, Rice University, the University ofHouston, Texas Tech University, and Texas ChristianUniversity. The conference is designed to enhance both theeducational and the research atmosphere of the growing communityof Texas geometers and topologists. The conference is committedto bring researchers of national and international stature toTexas to discuss their research and to interact withmathematicians from Texas and surrounding states. Summaries oftalks with notation of important results have been reportedannually for some time and will continue similarly in the future.By design, the Texas Geometry and Topology Conference has twohigh-impact foci. First, the conference makes it possible forthe community of geometers and topologists from Texas andsurrounding states (a huge geographic region) to meet and sharemathematics on a regular basis, which both stimulates individualresearch and generates productive cooperative efforts betweenschools. Second, the conference is committed to thestrengthening and enrichment of the mathematics personnel base.In order that there be no barrier to participation, theconference is widely advertised, participation is open, and thereare no registration fees. Graduate students, junior faculty,women, minorities, and persons with disabilities are especiallyencouraged to participate and to apply for support.
