英文摘要
0527215DriscollAbstractThe PI will attempt a series of numerical experiments to examine the depth-dependent extension and consequent subsidence of the lithosphere during late stage of continental rifting and early seafloor spreading. Lithospheric thinning, margin breakup and seafloor spreading will be modeled. The PI will explore three alternative hypotheses put forward to explain depth-dependent extension. The work could lead to better insight about how hydrocarbons accumulate and evolve on divergent margins. Scripps Institutions aquarium outreach for K-12 students and science interest in the community and the support of a female co-PI as a post-doc are other broader impacts of this project.
