英文摘要
This award supports a workshop to define technical specifications for polar deployment of the next generation of seismic and GPS stations. Such instrumentation is required to address fundamental science questions about the structure and evolution of the Antarctic ice sheets and continent. The workshop's objectives are to: 1) allow station operation in remote polar regions for periods of years without the need to land aircraft and service the stations, and 2) collect data sets vital to achieving community-identified science goals. Power/communication systems that can be used in a multi-sensor configuration (i.e., seismic, GPS, weather sensors) will be a key focus area, but technical specifications for seismometers and GPS receivers will also be addressed. In terms of broader impacts, this workshop will promote collaboration and define a development path for new infrastructure for polar research.
