项目摘要
0603035BagchiThe main objective of the proposal is to study the rheology of blood in microcirculation. The major aims are (1) to develop advanced 3D computational models for red blood cells (RBC), and (2) investigate the RBC aggregation formation and its effect on blood flow patterns including white blood cell (WBC) margination. The simulation and modeling techniques developed will provide better understanding for high aggregation of blood cell phenomenon in various diseases (e.g. in sickle cell anemia, diabetes mellitus). The developed 3D models representing actual blood cells can impact different areas from microcirculations to biomechanics, and from biorheology to multiphase fluid flows. The educational and outreach components include graduate student training, course development, an undergraduate research program and involvement in summer research and Open Houses.
