This award to a new investigator is for the development of microarray scanner software with advances in image-processing and data-analysis capabilities. Key merits of this work include studying the impacts of the automatic image analysis, data management, normalization and statistic analysis, knowledge discovery and data mining, and the biological interpretations on the performance improvement for the microarray scanner software.In addition to the scientific impacts of this software development project, there are many educational impacts. University students will benefit from new courses that are being developed, research opportunities for undergraduate students, and outreach to women and students from underrepresented minority groups.
