AbstractAward: DMS-0745204Principal Investigator: Mieczyslaw K. Dabkowski, Jozef H. Przytycki, Viswanath RamakrishnaThe Workshop on Knots and Quantum Computing to be held at theUniversity of Texas at Dallas in November 2007 is the first of aplanned series of conferences devoted to the relationship betweenknot theory and other fields of science. Plenary talks at thisconference are expected to survey the state of existingconnections between knots and quantum computation, exemplified byKhovanov homology, which is presently understood as ageneralization of the Jones polynomial or a similar invariant ofa knot to a novel chain complex whose Euler characteristicrecovers the original polynomial invariant.This conference is intended to provide a place for knot theoristsand researchers in quantum computing to communicate and todevelop new connections between their subjects. PhD students andrecent PhDs are particularly encouraged to attend and to applyfor travel support from this award.
