Core issue of this project is basic research on the ejector effect, present in numerous applications, by means of experimental and numerical methods. The ejector effect is generated by a fast primary jet flow accelerating surrounding fluid by momentum and energy transport exchange within the developing shear layer. It is the objective of this project to gain a better understanding of the basic physical phenomena of the ejector effect and elaborate solutions how to better capture and predict this effect by applying latest CFD methods. This includes consideration and assessment of various approaches for the proper treatment of the encountered turbulence phenomena.The intended work scope includes the creation of a meaningful test case providing comprehensive experimental data for validation purposes of numerical results. Extensive numerical studies will be carried out aiming at an assessment and improvement of the quantitative prediction capabilities of state of the art CFD methods and statements on the most important parameters influencing the ejector effect. At the end of the research project, a general characterization and description of the ejector effect should exist and a state of knowledge be achieved which allows for a CFD supported reliable utilization of the ejector effect in concrete technical applications.
