Projekt B12 befasst sich mit der numerischen Simulation dispersiver und dissipativer Effekte des QED-Vakuum in ultra-intensivem Laserlicht. Grundlage des Simulationscodes sind theoretische Ergebnisse auf dem Gebiet elementarer QED-Prozesse in starken Feldern und kollektiver Modelle abgeleitet aus der Wigner-QED. Zur numerischen Lösung der Gleichungen findet ein erweitertes Particle-In-Cell Verfahren auf einer AMR-Domain Verwendung. Insbesondere sollen in B12 die nichtlineare Ausbreitung elektromagnetischer Wellen im QED-Vakuum, die spontane und induzierte Produktion von Elektronen und Positronen sowie harte Strahlungsprozesse im Detail untersucht werden.
