The Research Unit has been a great platform to support collaborations between German and Mexican leading research groups. All activities, such as student exchanges, data exchange and organization of meetings have been coordinated from Karlsruhe. This successful approach will be continued during the extension period. Because many collaborations were set up or strengthened during the first funding period and several joined publications are about to be submitted, the number of student exchanges and visits of PIs at other laboratories is going to increase. Therefore, we are going to keep the organization structure of the Research Unit and apply for the same resources as in the first funding period. This includes money for half a administrative position (E5), money for student exchanges, money for meetings and money for gender equality.
