For understanding of geometric and electronic structures of interfaces at the molecular scale, we address crystalline multilayer nano-clusters with an inorganic transition metal chalcogenide MxEy core (M = transition metal, E = S, Se, Te), a first surrounding shell of tetrel dichalcogenide TE2 units (T = Ge, Sn) and a covalently bound, outer ligand shell with functional organic groups for further interaction with (semi-)metal atoms or surfaces. By varying M, T and E, we explore the effect of the various components on the nature of the interfaces between them, also in comparison with stacked 2D systems of the same metal (di-)chalcogenide composition.
