In 2011, based on computer simulation analysis of light scattering, the phenomenon of Extreme Transformation (ET) of an evanescent field by a nanodimensional inhomogeneity located within a thin metal film deposited on a glass prism was revealed by our research team. The ET consists in sharp (by several orders of magnitude) increase of scattered intensity with a variation of the incident angle of the exciting plane wave. We believe that the ET phenomenon will help to develop essentially new principles of designing of devices used for biological molecular structures analysis, superresolving optical microscopes, developing optical antennas, liquid crystal displays, compact biosensors and gas analyzers.During the research stay the collaborating partner Prof. Yuri Eremin Moscow State University, Moscow in Bremen we plan to generalize the developed light scattering method Discrete Sources Method (DSM) to be enable examination ET phenomenon with new features. We will investigate the sensitivity of the scattering characteristics to the shape of the plasmonic particles also in the frequency domain. The influence of the local inhomogeneous environment of the particle on the scattering characteristics will be simulated. The DSM theory will be extended to simulate clusters of strongly interacting plasmonic particles deposited on a multilayered substrate.
