The Dynamics of Root Stem Cell Regulation

植物根系通过在土壤中提供锚定以及吸收养分和水分，对植物的整体发育、生长和性能至关重要。根干细胞研究是解决我们社会面临的紧迫问题所必需的，如粮食安全和可持续能源的提供。阐明根分生组织维持和调控的基本机制将为从模式植物如拟南芥到重要作物的转化研究提供基础。我的目的是阐明如何在拟南芥根干细胞的维持细胞间信号转导过程是介导的，以及这些如何影响整体的根结构和发展的植物。这将通过利用遗传和先进的荧光显微镜技术相结合来实现，以解决植物生物学的基本问题。

Plant roots are essential for overall plant development, growth and performance by providing anchorage in the soil and uptake of nutrients and water. Root stem cell research is needed to address urgent problems faced by our society such as food security and provision of sustainable energy sources. Elucidating the fundamental mechanisms of root meristem maintenance and regulation will provide the basis for translational research from model species such as Arabidopsis thaliana to important crop plants. My aim is to elucidate how intercellular signaling processes in Arabidopsis root stem cell maintenance are mediated and how these affect overall root architecture and development in plants. This will be achieved by utilizing a combination of genetic and advanced fluorescence microscopic techniques to bear on fundamental problems of plant biology.
